โฆ Synopsis
The ionic radii have been useful quantities in describing the structure and developing theoretical models for recently discovered high-temperature superconductors. In the present study we have investigated the effects of valency and ligancy on the radii of ions using Pauling's theory for ionic compounds. The calculated values of radii have been found to depend sensitively upon the valency as well as ligancy, i.e., the coordination number. The usefulness of the calculated radii has been discussed in the context of hightemperature superconducting oxides.
