The characteristics of a gaseous discharge have been studied in the presence of a Iocalised transverse magnetic field applied to a discharge tube. The breakdown voltage and the post breakdown discharge current are found to be dependent on the strength and the position of the applied magnetic field.

## Abstract As known, the hollow cathode discharge has two modes of operation: the usual radial one with low impedance and a high impedance mode in which an axial electron beam is produced. This beam mode occurs at low gas pressures and low discharge currents and the applied discharge voltage deter
