✦ Synopsis


The nonlinear response of a beam on elastic foundation subjected to the harmonic excitation is investigated, and the effect of soil-structure interaction on the primary resonance of the beam is analyzed. Considering the inextensional condition, the nonlinear equation of motion of a beam on elastic foundation is proposed via the Hamilton principle. Then, the method of multiple scales is used to obtain the frequencyresponse equation and second-order approximate solution of the dynamic response of the beam on elastic foundation. Finally, numerical results are presented to investigate the effects of the second-order moment, foundation models, Winkler parameter and excitation amplitude on the primary resonance of the beam on elastic foundation.
