โฆ Synopsis
Pr substituted YBa2Cu4Os ( 1 : 2: 4) has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction at 930 ยฐ C-950 ยฐ C in 200 bar oxygen pressure. Pr could be substituted only up to 20% i.e., Yo.sPro.2Ba2Cu4Os. Tc decreased with increasing Pr; however, Tc could be restored by co-substitution of Ca along with Pr which was possible up to Pr= 0.2 and Ca = 0.1. XANES indicated the presence of Pr 3+ but not Pr 4รท. In 1 : 2: 4, Tc depends on the rare-earth ion size, and Pr 3+ ions cause only a small additional suppression of Tc below that expected from the size of Pr 3+. The large "Pr effect" in the suppression of Tc of 1 : 2: 3 is thus a special property of the 1 : 2: 3 structure.

We have presented the results of Zn and Ga substitution in place of Cu in YBa,&Os (Y-124). The samples of YBaZ(Cu,\_,Zn,)40s with x=0.00-0.20 and YBaZ(Cu,\_,GaX)dOs with x=0.01-0.10 were synthesised at ambient oxygen pressure using sodium oxalate. With increase in concentration of Zn in Y-124 no sig
Raman spectra of Yl-xCaxBa2Cu408 were investigated. At the Ca concentraiton of 10 %, which was solubility limit, frequency shift of 2 cm -1 was observed in the peaks at 492 cm -1 and 595 cm "1 assigned to the motion of 0(1) and 0(4) atoms, respectively. It is suggested that the stractural change due
