This study evaluates the performance of a 10-Gbits/s coherent optical synchronous receiuer for ASK FSK and PSK modulation formats in the presence of both transmitter laser and local oscillator phase noise. It has been shown that the effect of phase noise on the receiver sensitivity will be negligibly small when the rms value of phase noise
