โฆ Synopsis
The effects of lmmobilisation on the oxidation-reduction equilibria of 2,6-dichloroindophenol (DIP) between pH 2 and 6 have been studied. The formal potentials of the indicator in solution and in the immobilised form were obtained using absorbance and reflectance techniques, respectively, and were deduced from percentage reduction versus redox potential plots. The redox potential of the solution was altered using potentiopoised solutions containing different ratios of potassium hexacyanoferrate(I1) and hexacyanoferrate(II1). The formal potentials were found to be lowered when DIP was immobilised on XAD-4 resin. This and other observations described in this paper would be useful in the development of optical redox sensors.
