โฆ Synopsis
The effect of oxidation on the pore structure of two different graphitized carbons has been investigated. Graphon and P33 were subjected to oxidation to achieve various extents of bum-off and the pore structure of each sample was subsequently examined using the techniques of low temperature adsorption and electron microscopy. It is apparent that oxidation affects the pore geometry in different ways and a model is proposed which describes the manner in which the pore structure changes. The effect which mass transport and chemical reaction has on the oxidation of these materials is also discussed.
