โœฆ Synopsis


We present the first measurements of the effect of nonequilibrium phonons on the tunnel current in a weakly coupled GaAs/AlAs superlattice. The phonon-induced current has a maximum at a bias voltage which varies linearly with phonon source temperature at both zero and applied magnetic fields (B = 6 T). We attribute these results to assisted tunnelling by stimulated phonon emission and show that this system can be used as a phonon spectrometer.
