✦ Synopsis
The eects of urea fertilization (1 g/l) on the photosynthetic rate and a-and b-asarone accumulation in the leaves of a clonal triploid of Acorus calamus L. were investigated. Urea addition signi®cantly increased (up to ca. 50%) the photosynthesis rate vs. incident light (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density), chlorophylls and carotenoids, proteins and amino nitrogen contents. Urea application signi®cantly increased the tyrosine and b-asarone contents (ca. 30%) but it decreased those of phenylalanine and a-asarone.
