✦ Synopsis
The contribution of Fe to C2S polymorphs is effectively revealed for B-C2S formation and is not for a -or a-C2S.
However in co-existing of Na or K with Fe, the a-C2S is easily stabilized, though accompanied with small amount of crystalline Ca2Fe205 as the interstitial material This effect of Fe on a-and B-C2S synthesis was investigated by XRD, chemical analysis and M~ssbauer spectra observation.
Comparing calculated M~ssbauer parameters of ~-and S-C2 S with those of other minerals, it was confirmed that they included only Fe3+ at octahedral and tetrahedral sites with the ratio 30:70 in Na-Fe substituted a-form and with 63:37 in K-Fe substituted a-form.
In ~-C2S , Fe 3+ was mostly situated at tetrahedral site.
The formulas of ~-and ~-C2S were decided and shown as, (Cal.88Fe0.05Nao.24)(Si0.88FeO.ll)04, (Cai.94 Fe0.o9K0.18)(Si0.88Fe0.05)04 for a-form and (Cal.93Fe0.003Nao.04) (Si0.99Fe0.05)04, (Cal.94Feo.01Ko.o4)(Si0.92Fe0.13)O 4 for ~-form.
