โฆ Synopsis
In this paper a model is presented which allows one to compute the sound waves scattered by a group of parallel tubes. The tubes are submerged in viscous fluids and the number of tubes is finite. The model takes into account the tube wall motion, the inner tube fluid loading and the thermoviscous losses. It has been applied to a tube row to examine the shell motion of the tube walls. The tube row consists of five identical tubes, which are excited by both an incident plane wave and the scattered waves. The numerical results show that the interaction among the tubes due to the multiple scattering will shift the tube resonance frequencies to lower values and drastically change the amplitudes of the tube wall motion, depending on the shell mode number and the space between the tubes. The results have been found useful in understanding the characteristics of sound wave dissipation in infinite tube gratings.
