✦ Synopsis

Nineteen pigs were studied in order to assess the effect of low grade, radiofrequencypowered, thermal balloon angioplasty on the vasoconstrictor response of peripheral arteries. A mechanical stimulus was used to induce vasospasm. Thermal angioplasty reduced the extent of inducible vasospasm from 79% to 6% compared to nonthermal control inflations, which reduced the vasoconstrictor response from 75% to 60% (P F 0.001). Histologic studies demonstrated that the extent of myocyte necrosis was significantly greater in the thermally treated arteries than in the control vessels (P F 0.01). Thermal balloon angioplasty at 60Β°C significantly attenuates peripheral arterial vasospasm induced by mechanical trauma in the porcine model. This paralytic effect may be related to the loss of myocytes secondary to thermal necrosis.

Low energy helium neon laser has been suggested as an effective adjuvant in the healing of open wounds. To date, supportive studies have been performed in loose-skinned animals. For such data to be clinically meaningful, it was felt necessary to study this effect in an animal with a dermal structure

## Abstract This study sought to determine anterior force in the porcine knee during simulated 6‐degree‐of‐freedom (DOF) motion to establish the role of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Compression injuries of spinal nerve roots are very common. However, the basic pathophysiology of these conditions is not fully understood. In this study a model is presented for experimental graded compression of the nerve roots of the pig cauda equina, including a technique for vital microscopic s
