The effect of a water extract of Cardiospermum grandijlorum Swartz (Sapindaceae) was investigated on a gravid female ratuherus. This extract showed a strong elevation in contractile activity, inhibited by atropine, of the female (pregnant) Wistar rat uterus. It was found to be dose dependent.

✦ Synopsis
A methanol extract (MEII) obtained from the seeds of Zpomoea intrupilosu and its isolated crude alkaloid fraction (ALKII) were tested as possible blockers of the serotonergic response in the rat uterus in vitro. The results obtained showed an unsurmountable non-selective inhibition of the contractile response induced by serotonin on isolated uterine smooth muscle.

The purpose of the study was to determine whether an episode of anoxia in the neonatal period affects the hypoxic ventilatory response in developing rats. Three to 4 day old rats (EXP rats) (day 0 = day of birth) were exposed to 100% N 2 for about 20 min. In anoxia, animals changed their respiratory
Arsenic has been proposed to have a physiological role in methionine metabolism, either in methionine recycling or in transsulfuration. Thus an experiment was designed to determine if a stressor of the transsulfuration pathway of methionine metabolism would affect arsenic deprivation. The stressor u
We report that the extracts of Compositae plants inhibit 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced ear oedema in mice. Seventy five methanol extracts obtained from 53 species in 11 tribes of Compositae plants were assayed and their inhibitory ratios calculated. In general, medicinal and edi
