✦ Synopsis

The e †ect of nitrogen ylide, namely imidazoliumÈp-chlorophenacylide (ICPY), on the properties of semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPNs) of poly(zinc acrylate) as component I and styrene-co-methylmethacrylate as component II, using divinyl benzene as crosslinking agent, has been studied and compared with those obtained with a-a@-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN). The semi-IPNs have been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, di †erential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy. The crosslink density as well as thermal stability of the IPNs synthesized in the presence of ylide (ICYP) is less than that with AIBN.
