Deformations in the walls of a hollow superconducting cylinder trapping a magnetic field change the strength and homogeneity of the field. The influence of such distortions has been studied numerically. The results allow an estimate to be made of the accuracy to which a cylinder has to be machined to produce fields of the required homogeneity.

Magnetic field effects on the photodissociation reaction of triphenylphosphine at 293 K were investigated in several non-viscous homogeneous solvents by means of a nanosecond laser photolysis technique under magnetic fields of 0-1.75 T. The generated neutral radical pair of the diphenylphosphinyl an
