✦ Synopsis
The mean-squared torque (C 2) acting on a N20 molecule mixed with xenon or carbon dioxide is reported as a function of the density p of the perturbing gas, up to 110 amagat. It is shown that the experimental slope (C2)/p is fifty percent bigger in the case of carbon dioxide. Taking into account the similar potential parameter values for xenon and carbon dioxide, the different terms involved in the interaction are discussed and the importance of the effect of the electrostatic terms is pointed out.
