Chloroquine (C) is therapeutically used in lupus erythematosus and other immunologic and non-immunologic diseases. Numerous contributions on its mode of action appeared in the literature [8,9,15], but the basis for its effectiveness is not yet clear. The lymphocyte transformation by mitogens became one of the standard methods in the evaluation of cell-mediated immunity [13]. We investigated the action of chloroquine in this in vitro system.
