Abstract
The Er^3+^βsingleβdoped and Er^3+^/Ce^3+^βcodoped YAG particles were synthesized by solidβphase synthesis method. The luminescence spectra of infrared and visible regions were measured at room temperature. Compared with the Er^3+^βsingleβdoped YAG, the sample with 1%Er^3+^ and 10%Ce^3+^ has the highest luminescence intensity at βΌ1.5βΒ΅m band, and the samples with Ce^3+^ have the weaker upconversion visible emission and the shorter lifetime of ^4^I~11/2~ level. That codoping with Ce^3+^ was confirmed to be an effective method to improve the quantum efficiency of Er^3+^ βΌ1.5βΒ΅m radiation and to decrease the energy loss from the excited state absorption of Er^3+^.
