โœฆ Synopsis

A combination of finite elements to boundary elements is proposed for solving general cracked tubular joint problems. The relationship between nodal displacements and tractions on the interface from finite element equations is introduced into the boundary integral equation as a natural boundary condition. The effectiveness and accuracy of the method is tested by estimating the stress intensity factors of a semi-elliptical surface crack located at the saddle point of welded tubular T-joints by varying the brace thickness and weld size. The numerical results are compared with those obtained from finite element method and experimental tests.
