โฆ Synopsis
Circumferential m o t i o n of a c o n d u c t i n g l u b r i c a n t in a h y d r o s t a t i c t h r u s t b e a r i n g is caused either b y t h e a n g u l a r motiorl of a r o t a t i n g disk or b y t h e i n t e r a c t i o n of a radial electric field a n d a n axial m a g n e t i c field. U n d e r t h e a s s u m p t i o n t h a t t h e fluid inertia due to radial m o t i o n is negligibly small in comparisoI1 w i t h t h a t due to a n g u l a r motion, it is found a n a l y t i c a l l y t h a t t h e rotor causes an increase in flow rate a n d a decrease in load capacity, while b o t h are increased b y t h e application of a n electric field in t h e presence of an axial m a g n e t i c fiel& The critical angular speed of t h e rotor at which t h e b e a r i n g can no longer s u p p o r t a n y load is obtained, a n d t h e possibility of flow s e p a r a t i o n in t h e l u b r i c a n t is discussed.
