✦ Synopsis

Na20 and K20 in absence of S03 are incorporated preferentially into the C3A phase of portland clinker altering its modification from cubic to orthorhombic. The hydration of Na20 doped C3A is retarded and that of K20 doped C3A accelerated in the resultant cements. The progress of C3S hydration and strength development are not altered noticeably. The setting time is extended in Na20-doped and shortened in K20-doped cements.
