Abstract

This was a pilot study of a novel method for providing nurses with access to diabetes knowledge, following the principles of adult learning. It involved a seminar and workbook‐guided course, with the emphasis on self‐directed study. Each participant presented a topic for group discussion during the seminars which were facilitated by a course leader. The pilot course was completed using a small group who all worked within the General Medicine Directorate at lpswich Hospital, and was run over a four month period. The course was evaluated through discussion, reflection and questionnaire. Overall it was successful; all the participants enjoyed the seminars and thought it was an effective and fulfilling way to study and learn.
