✦ Synopsis

The following two papers by A. B. Goncharov both concern integral geometry and the reconstruction of three-dimensional objects from a collection of two-dimensional projections and integrals. As such, they apply to problems of computerized tomography and related matters. They should be read/studied together.

They are not, however, survey papers in the sense that they survey one or another aspect of this highly interesting field of applied mathematics. Instead, they present some new and original ideas in the field which, in my opinion, deserve a lot of attention. The two papers do meet the other main criterion of Acta Applicandae Mathematica: that of being accessible to a large and varied audience of mathematically literate scientists.
