✦ Synopsis

In 1984 the Center's Director, Professor Henry S. Albinski, asked that discussions be held, while we were in Australia and New Zealand on a planned research visit, as to the interest and value on the part of colleagues there in convening an invitational conference on some health issues common to those countries and the United States. New Zealand was included because the proximity and extensive interchange between Australia and New Zealand make it important to deal jointly with both countries on most political, economic, and social issues.

A draft program was developed, and discussed with, and modified by, colleagues in New Zealand and Australia. The theme and topics covered in these proceedings emerged from those discussions.
