We are grateful to Dr Colomban and Dr Corset for organizing this Special Issue relating to Raman microspectrometry and materials science. The papers presented here illustrate that Raman microspectrometry is a very effective method for investigating the structure and properties of a wide range of new materials.

The Luminescence News section of Luminescence is being developed as a service to readers in response to the rapid rate of progress in our understanding of the fundamental aspects as well as applications of luminescence technology. It will provide a source for news and information on all aspects of
