✦ Synopsis

The publication of this issue of Hematological Oncology marks the beginning of a new phase in the life of the Journal. The most immediate and obvious change has been to the cover design, which is indicative of major changes in its Editorial structure, the composition of the Editorial Board, and future publication strategy.

As the new Editors of Hematological Oncology, we look forward to the challenge of developing the Journal in the coming years. To assist in this task, we have undertaken a major review of the Editorial Board and have been fortunate in recruiting experts in many aspects of hematologic malignancy from all parts of the world, to add to the existing Board. We are grateful to all members of the new Board for their support and enthusiasm for this project.

The Aims and Scope of the Journal have been modified to be more 'inclusive' of contributions in all areas of hematologic malignancy, and we welcome manuscripts covering all aspects of these diseases, both clinical and experimental.

Editorial offices have been established in Boston and in Stanford, in addition to the existing office in Southampton, and we are sure that this will ensure rapid handling of manuscripts, and a very short processing time from submission to publication.

We have initiated a series of regular reviews, by leading international experts, the first of which, by Finbarr Cotter, appears in this issue. Other reviews in subjects of major topical interest are planned for later this year and the Journal will be happy to consider unsolicited reviews in the future (subject to the normal process of peer review). We also plan to introduce occasional 'single theme' issues of the Journal in future months, to focus upon research of particular importance.

We wish to acknowledge the contribution of the former Editor-in-Chief, Michael Whitehouse, and wish him well in his new role. In addition, we extend thanks to outgoing members of the Editorial Board for their support in recent years.

Despite these changes, the underlying philosophy of Hematological Oncology will remain unchanged-to publish high quality, original research in the field of hematologic malignancy. To that end, we acknowledge the invaluable contribution of all of our colleagues who have assisted in peer review of submitted manuscripts.

The study of hematologic malignancy is an area of intense research activity and rapid advances in knowledge, and we all share the excitement of scientific progress in this field. We trust that the 'new look' Hematological Oncology will be a valuable source of new knowledge, and, to that end, we hope that you will give us the opportunity to publish your new data in the future.
