Based at Guy's, his surgical training included attachments in East Africa and the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Mr Heald is a consultant surgeon at Basingstoke District Hospital with a particular interest in coloproctology. He is well known for his work on total mesorectal excision in cancer surgery. He is a Member of Council of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and former President of the surgical section of the Royal Society of Medicine.
