โœฆ Synopsis

T his issue marks the completion of four years of IN SESSION, whose goal is to provide a balance of clinical wisdom about and empirical support for our therapeutic interventions. Presenting clinical guidelines that are illustrated with case material, it has much to say to the practicing therapist. At a time when the field of psychotherapy is being pressed for the accountability of its interventions, IN SESSION is attentive to the need to include the available research underpinnings of what we do clinically.

As a further move toward the common goal of clinical practice and research-improving clinical effectiveness-I am pleased to announce that beginning January 1999, IN SESSION will be merged with the JOURNAL OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY. I will remain Editor of IN SESSION, which will continue to appear four times a year, remaining unchanged in its format and content. The JOURNAL OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY, edited by Kenneth Howard and Larry Beutler, will be published eight times a year, and will offer peer-reviewed research and review articles on psychotherapy effectiveness research, psychological assessment, treatment matching, and clinical outcomes. Individuals have the option of subscribing to both journals or to only one of them. What is particularly significant is that thousands of libraries worldwide will subscribe to both journals, making IN SESSION more readily available in settings that have found it to be so helpful in training future therapists.

Because of the unique content and format of IN SESSION, extra care and effort is needed in the preparation of articles. For this, I very much appreciate the hard work and dedication of those who have contributed to this, our fourth volume of IN SESSION, and the invaluable feedback they received from the Guest Editors and their reviewers.
