✦ Synopsis

Of the many Ðelds where NMR is indispensible as a tool for the elucidation of structure and dynamics, polymer chemistry and structure is ranging among the most important. Polymeric materials have already been studied in the early days of CW NMR when F. Bovey pioneered NMR applications in this area and most recent advances in solid state NMR techniques have again been demonstrated with samples from this class of compounds. It is, therefore, surprising that the Ðeld of polymer NMR is apparently not covered by a specialized journal. The Editorial Board of Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry decided to Ðll this gap by appointing a renowned scientist as editor for manuscripts dealing with polymer NMR.

I now have the pleasure to announce that Professor Laupreü tre, ESPCI, Paris, has accepted our FrancÓ oise invitation to act as topical editor for polymer highresolution as well as solid state NMR. I, therefore, cordially invite all colleagues from this Ðeld to consider Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry in the future as a platform for publications dealing with polymer NMR. In order to shorten the publication times, manuscripts can be submitted directly to Professor Laupreü tre at her address given inside the JournalÏs cover page. If the submission rate allows us to start a special section on polymer NMR in the Journal we will not hesitate to arrange this.

Modeling results indicate that a moderate increase in coarseness of the initial dispersion of the polymer in solution leads to a faster coagulation rate and to the formation of a more uniform structure. Such an increase in coarseness can be obtained either by bringing the polymer solution close to t
