We synthesized each four members of the new series
All compounds are nematic. The dicyanoethenyl derivatives possess strong electron acceptor properties. This is demonstrated by EDA complex formation in two binary systems in which induced smectic phases are lacking.

Alle Verbindungen sind nematisch. Die Dicyanethenylderivate besitzen starke Elektronenacceptor-Eigenschaften. Dies wird durch EDA-Komplexbildung in zwei biniiren Systemen, in denen keine induzierten smektischen Phasen auftreten, gezeigt.
We synthesized four members of a new homologous series of liquid crystalline compounds which contain dicyanoethenyl groups in lateral position. The synthesis of the compounds follows the general scheme :
