calcined red mud catalyst contained in a fluidised bed. The red mud catalyst and reaction conditions employed have the potential to be scaled to industrial throughputs. The low cost catalyst resulted in a MWNT yield of 375% with respect to the Fe content in the catalyst, at $75% MWCNT selectivity. The wall quality of the products and degree of graphitisation (I G /I D of $1.65) are consistent with that of industrial grade MWNTs currently available.
