This matrix allows for the optimisation of the anode composition and catalytic properties. Because of its low catalytic activity and high electrical conductivity, Cu is an excellent metal for use as a current collector in SOFC anodes. The authors have demonstrated that anodes consisting of CulCeOz/YSZm are active for the direct oxidation of alkanes and alkenes, and anodes composed of Cu/SmzOj-CeO+SZm are active for direct oxidation of a wide range of hydrocarbons including aromatics.
