✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Budd‐Chiari syndrome is a rare vascular complication of liver transplantation that may result in loss of the graft and a high mortality risk. Therefore, early diagnosis is extremely important to allow preservation of the graft and improve the prognosis. We describe the sonographic findings in a patient in whom Budd‐Chiari syndrome occurred 2 days after orthotopic liver transplantation. Β© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Clin Ultrasound, 2007

The authors correctly caution that their prognostic score must be externally validated before use in a clinical setting. Hopefully, with further studies and validation, a recommendation can be made on which patients with BCS should proceed beyond TIPS in a timely manner to liver transplantation.
