β¦ Synopsis
Samas
-lumur, son of Sm-putram; before Malnum-saninsu, son of Sln-seme; before Wer-nasir, son of Iazkur-El; before Ilsu-ibbisu, son of Belsunu. Year when the golden throne was made for the sanctuary of S;n of Warhum.' Lines 1-3. If a reading gis.DA! is correct, cp. L. Oppenheim, Eames Collection 122, who translates this term 'board', used in the building of a ship; see A. Salonen, Wasserfahrzeuge 79: gis.da. ma = ttt eleppt, 'side of a ship'. The length of the boards mentioned in our tablet, some ca. 12 ft. and some ca. 13 ft., would fit well into a shipbuilding context (kus = ammatu = cubit, ca. 50 cm. or 20 inches; GAR = 12 cubits, Neugebauer and Sachs, Mathematical Cuneiform Texts, p. 4). Line 2. Case reverses the order of lines 2 and 3. Line 6. Case adds this person's father,-Wara(d)-za. Line 7. Case adds this person's father,-Is-me-dStn. Line 9. The first x may be SU, leading one to think of Su.bir4. It is doubtful, however, that the second sign can represent BIR4. Line 11. Case spells the name Ha-lum-ma-, -ta-rz. Line 13.
