β¦ Synopsis
nformation technology (IT) has become as much I a part of the gas industry as any other industry. For the past few years, the well-known names of the IT industry have set their sights on the much-anticipated deregulation of the electric and gas utility industry. Companies from OracIe to S A P and their partners have sought to apply enterprise software solutions to this as they have done in many other industries. Utilities have been busy overhauling legacy systems and linking databases and systems that were previously incommunicado. As utilities express confidence that Y2K compliance is more or less in hand, there are plenty of other IT-related projects and systems to consider.
