✦ Synopsis
Jakob disease (CJD) is frequently difficult to diagnose in life since the classical triad of dementia, myoclonus, and typical electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities may only be present in the late stages of the disorder. Such diagnostic difficulties may hamper current epidemiological surveys (l), which have been stimulated by public concern over the potential link between CJD and spongiform encephalopathies in animals. We report a patient with the disorder in whom florid dyskinesia was precipitated by antidepressant medication. This may be a useful pointer towards the diagnosis in future cases.
