β¦ Synopsis
The interaction of a spin with an electromagnetic field is treated utilizing the second-quantization method. The angular momentum operators are obtained from the particle creation and annihilation operators and the Jaynes-Cummings model is recovered from the present model Hamiltonian. A set of fictitious spin-l/2 operators are constructed from the spin-tIeId product operators and their correspondence to the semiclassical operators is elucidated. In order to treat the spin response under irradiation of arbitrary complexity, a quantized version of coherent averaging theory (CAT) is developed. The quantized CAT is applied to both single-and double-quantum transitions.
