Abstract

One of the numerous equations needed to define the dynamics of a distillation column has been derived. This equation relates the feed composition to the product composition. Thederivation is accomplished by the reduction of the signal flow diagram. The poles and zeros of the equation are almost entirely determined by the ratio of the tray holdup to the liquid flow rates and the number of trays.
