โฆ Synopsis
The dynamics of the transverse vibration of a string fixed at both ends excited by the transverse impact of an elastic load at any point have been worked out by using an operational method and Heaviside's expansion theorem. The analysis included the loading of the string by the hammer during the period of contact. Expressions have been obtained for the displacement at the point struck and for the force exerted by the string on the hammer during the point of contact. An expression for the relative loss of energy of the hammer also has been obtained.
