✦ Synopsis

A magic-angle spinning NMR method is presented which enables slow molecular motion in amorphous and partially ordered systems to be detected. In a one-dimensional experiment the spinning sidebands are modified or suppressed during a preparation period. During the following mixing period this initial non-equilibrium state is perturbed by the molecular motion, leading to partially restored sidebands in the subsequent detection period. The method is illustrated by the two-site exchange in dimethylsulfone.
