โฆ Synopsis
The stability properties of a periodically loaded non-linear dynamic system are investigated and special attention is given to damping e!ects. Advantage is taken of the Floquet theory and the FE-approach is applied to a hinged beam where the damping is described by a standard material model and where even damping e!ects at the hinges are considered. Comparisons are made with experimental results. 2001 Academic Press 0022-460X/01/300779#15 $35.00/0 *u *x " *u *x !z *w *x # 1 2 *w *x .
