β¦ Synopsis
Abstmct-A kin~ati~ly simple model for dynamic fracture of a tapered fiber-reinforced double cantilever beam is discussed. The model requires tire solution of the wave equation with a variable coefficient on a timedependent domain. Tire case of parabolic tapering is treated in clos,-d form, for a time interval after fracturebegins from a pre-existing crack. The crack speed is found under two fracture criteria; the fhst of tbesc is the usual energy criterion while the second is based on the fact that certain fibers in the model can carry concentrated forces.
