✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Traffic load conditions can excite relaxation oscillations in a chain of gain‐clamped erbium‐doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) in packet switched WDM optical networks. Crosstalk interaction depends on the delay between packets and cumulates along the amplifier chain, resulting in great power variations between packets, impairing system performance. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals,Inc.Microwave Opt Technol Lett 48:1894–1897, 2006; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
