## Abstract Oxidation of cotton cellulose with potassium periodate, potassium dichromate‐sulfuric acid, and potassium dichromate‐oxalic acid results in creation of variable amounts of acidic and reducing groups along the cellulose molecule, being dependent upon the type of oxidizing agent used. Suc
