mann is contributing technical expertise, and has invested a total of US$1.17 million in the erection of a new building including modern machinery. The German group holds 51% of the shares in Burgmann Shanghai Ltd, which is the new company name, and so is the first foreign manufacturer of seals in China with a majority holding. The joint venture started production of mechanical seals on January 1 of this year, and markets the whole product range of seals of the Burgmann company for China and neighbouring countries. The production manager is from Burgmann while the sales manager is from SPW. The Burgmann Shanghai market has an estimated value of roughly US$70 million.
