✦ Synopsis

A simple, low-cost, robust and easily fabricated dual flame thermocouple detector for gas chromatography has been developed. This detector is responsive to all combustible vapours, with a sensitivity of cu. 4*10-8 and a noise level of 2. 1O-8 measured in terms of g-mole/set of propane.

## Abstract A novel modification of a hydrogen‐atmosphere flamo ionization detector (HAFID) is presented which attenuates response to hydrocarbon compounds, significantly enhancing selectivity towards organometallic compounds by more than an order of magnitude. The design of the flame photometric detector has not been changed significantly in more than two decades. Major problems in the use of this detector for quantitative analysis are variation in the response with molecular structure of a sulfur-containing species, and hydrocarbon quenching. The variabl
