✦ Synopsis

THE third edition of this large and comprehensive work is published some five years after the second edition, which was reprinted twice. These facts speak for themselves and are proof of the popularity the book enjoys.

The author has had the assistance in this edition of four well-known orthopaedic surgeons in America, and they have added considerably to the value of t h i s volume.

One of the great advantages of this volume is the excellence of the illustrations; the radiographs and the photomicrographs of bone tumours are superb.

In this age of trauma children suffer as much as adults and it is in the treatment of these multiple traumatic lesions in children that this book excels. This volume will still retain its position as the best work on orthopaedic surgery in children.

Nearer to the Dust. By GEORGE A. GIPE. 8 x 54 in.

Pp. zgcfxvii. 1967. Baltimore: Williams & Wilkins THIS is an excellent account of the copyright law in America.

The author discusses its past, how it stands today, and its future. I t is not a happy state of affairs with all the various and many copying devices which are now on offer.

There can be no doubt whatever that authors and publishers alike require an up-to-date and comprehensive copyright law to protect them. Of course, there is no copyright law in Communist countries. The title of this book, and it is ,an apt one, is taken from T. S. Eliot's poem 'The Rock :

Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge ? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information ?

The cydes of Heaven in twenty centuries Bring us farther from God and nearer to the dust.
