β¦ Synopsis
From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8βJack Morgan, a 14-year-old orphaned thief on a distant planet, is the symbiont (biological partner) of Draycos, a wise, dragonlike alien. Jack and Draycos are on the run from a squadron of bad guys called the Malison Ring after Jack tries to break into their computer system. They, along with their sometime-friend Alison, temporarily escape to the wilderness of the planet Rho Scorvi, where they encounter a herd of beasts, the Phookas, very much like Draycoss Kda people, but with seemingly little intelligence. When the Malison Ring arrives and starts tearing up the forest in pursuit of Jack, he must become a herdsman of the Phookas while trying to save their lives and his own. Each volume in this adventure saga reveals a little more about the reticent Kda and about Jack, who grows from a heedless boy to a true hero. Great escape reading for classic sci-fi fans.βWalter Minkel, New York Public Library
