✦ Synopsis
It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Harold Bernstein on December 14th, 1984 at the age of 70.
Harold's contribution to Raman spectroscopy will be long-remembered. He made many novel and important contributions to our science, he was founder editor of this Journal and the founder Chairman of the International Conferences on Raman Spectroscopy: and he was the mentor of a large number of Post-Doctoral Fellows, so many of whom have subsequently achieved international reputations.
For a full account of his scientific career and the testimony of his scientific colleagues we refer you elsewhere (J. Raman Spectrusc, 11 (5) ( 198 1 )), an action no doubt Harold would have approved since this Journal is the source.
His many friends and colleagues in the Raman community will remember Harold for his sincerity, his integrity and his modesty. We extend our sympathy to his family, particularly his wife Dorothea whose loving support and encouragement sustained him in all his activities.
