Chester Swinyard, a founder and a President of the Teratology Society, died peacefully, in his sleep, on November 11, 1997, at the age of 91. He had a long and productive career and made many contributions to the science of teratology, but his great distinction was to the practical support for, and rehabilitation of the disabled. He played a unique role in organizing resources, financial support, and educational materials to promote the welfare of the handicapped.
